A Visitor’s Guide to Taiwan – The Beautiful Island

Taipei 101

You cannot help but notice this iconic supertall skyscraper in Xinyi District in Taipei that majestically stands out in the city landscape. Built in 2004, Taipei 101 was once the tallest building in the world until it was surpassed by the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. Standing at a splendid height of 509 m (1,667 ft) and 101 floors, this landmark architecture houses multiple offices and restaurants.

Cultural History at National Palace Museum

Arguably one of the most historically significant museums in the world, the National Palace Museum is home to nearly 700,000 ancient Chinese imperial artifacts, paintings and calligraphies, carvings, ceramics, rare documents and religious objects. Located in Taipei and Taibao, Chiayi County, this colossal structure reflects close to 8,000 years of Chinese history.

Snacking at the Night Markets of Taipei

Venture out on an eating spree until midnight or even morning to explore the bustling night markets of Taipei city. Experience shopping and snacking on a plethora of flavours of Taiwanese and Chinese food from the sprawling food joints of Shilin Night Market, Ningxia Night Market, Huaxi Night Market and Raohe Street Night Market.

History lesson at Long Shan Temple

Located in Wanhua District, Taipei, this Ancient Chinese folk religious temple is one of the most well-known tourist attractions in the city. Built in the year 1738 by settlers from Fujian, Long Shan Temple is a magnificent piece of architecture that flaunts the cultural heritage of Taiwan. An interesting fact about this ancient temple is that it endured through devastating earthquakes and bombings through time.

Colours of Rainbow Village

Located in the Nantun District, Taichung, Rainbow Village is a street art created by Huang Yung-fu aka Rainbow Grandpa, a former soldier from Taishan County. The village is one of the most charming attractions of Taichung and is known to be a symbolic representation of protest through the work of art. The village displays a wide spectrum of colours and art that are almost a feast for your eyes to see. Make sure to visit this place!

Little Niagara of Taiwan

Nicknamed as Little Niagara, Shifen Waterfalls is a stunning spectacle for tourists. The 40-metre tall waterfall located in Pingxi District, is known for its rainbow phenomenon that occurs as the water splashes into the lake on sunny days.  Enjoy the scenic charm of Shifen Old Street, the vintage train ride and the famous sky lantern tradition of Pingxi.

Hot Water Springs of Wulai

You would certainly need more than a day to get enough of this beautiful town. The closest aboriginal village to Taipei, this mountain indigenous town sits among the hills of the Wulai district and is known for its natural hot springs and aboriginal culture. Wulai is the largest district in New Taipei and is home to the Taiwanese indigenous Atayal people. Make sure to nestle into your own free public hot spring while you here.
